Christoph Mücher was born in Essen, Germany. He studied history, French language and literature, and German studies in Bonn, Germany and in Toulouse, France. He has spent the majority of his career at the Goethe-Institut, at various posts around the world, including: Munich, Germany; Tokyo, Japan; Wellington, New Zealand; and Boston, USA. He started his new position, as director of the Deutschlandjahr USA project, in October 2017. The Year of German-American Friendship (“Deutschlandjahr USA”) is a comprehensive and collaborative initiative funded by the German Federal Foreign Office, implemented by the Goethe-Institut, and with support from the Federation of German Industries (BDI). In his free time, he loves cheering on his favorite football team, Schalke 04, cooking with fresh ingredients, and exploring his new home of Washington, DC with Capital Bikeshare bikes.
